American Trucking Associations Announces Mike Russell ‘Good stuff’ Trucking Image Award Winner

ARLINGTON, Va.— The American Trucking Associations announced Don Hayden, president of M & M Cartage Co., Inc., was awarded the inaugural Mike Russell “Good stuff” Trucking Image Award during ATA’s annual Management Conference & Exhibition Oct. 20-23, in Orlando, Fla.

The award was created to honor those who creatively implement the “Good stuff. Trucks Bring It” campaign in order to generate positive awareness of the trucking industry.

“Don has been extremely active in promoting the positive image of trucking through the ‘Good stuff. Trucks Bring It’ campaign,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. “Whether delivering relief supplies to hurricane victims in a ‘Good stuff’ wrapped trailer, or working with the Kentucky Motor Transport Association to let the local media and public know how essential the trucking industry is to our economy, Don’s enthusiasm for the industry shines through,” Graves added.

Submissions were evaluated by an impartial panel of judges based on creativity, execution and reach/impact. The award is named in honor of the late Mike Russell, a trucking industry supporter and media official who helped develop the “Good stuff. Trucks Bring It.” campaign as vice president of Public Affairs for the American Trucking Associations. Russell’s efforts to improve the image of the trucking industry through the image campaign were the inspiration for this award.

“Working with Don on ATA’s Communication and Image Policy Committee the past few years, I have seen first-hand his dedication to improving the public perception of trucking,” said ATA’s Communication and Image Policy Committee Chair Virginia Parker. “Don has been a leader within the industry and a very deserving recipient,” Parker said.

Receiving honorable mention for the first-time award were five motor carriers and two state associations:

Bridgestone/Firestone

Diversified Transfer & Storage

GE Trailer Fleet Services

Midwest Specialized Transportation

O&S Trucking

Arkansas Trucking Association

California Trucking Association

“Good stuff. Trucks Bring It” is an industry-wide campaign aimed at improving the image of trucking. By emphasizing the relevance of trucking to all aspects of American society, the image campaign presents the public with a positive, modern image of the professional driver and industry. Everything we use comes by truck. “Trucks bring It” is how the industry informs the public of its importance.

The American Trucking Associations is the largest national trade association for the trucking industry. Through a federation of other trucking groups, industry-related conferences and its 50 affiliated state trucking associations, ATA represents more than 37,000 members covering every type of motor carrier in the United States.
